Law enforcement officers in the Chernivtsi region have launched an investigation into the beating of Metropolitan Longin of Bancheny. This was reported to the news source UNN by the head of the communication department of the Chernivtsi regional police, Karolina Marysheva.
‘On the basis of the public statements by Mykhailo Zhar, information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under the legal designation provided for in Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — intended minor bodily injury’, noted Karolina Marysheva.
According to her, a number of investigative actions will be carried out as part of the criminal proceedings to establish all the circumstances and final legal classification of the incident.
On 6 February, the YouTube channel of the Bancheny Monastery published a commentary by the metropolitan, in which he said that on 22 January, an unknown person attacked him, punching him in the face. The bishop lost consciousness from the blow, and later underwent surgery on his eyelids.
‘Someone knocked on the door 3 times, and when I opened it, I was hit. <...> I am feeling fine now! Everything is left to the mercy and judgement of God’, said Metropolitan Longin.
